No gridlock down here in South Georgia. We stayed in, warm and cozy, and only ventured out to see the bit of snow that fell. A few icicles hung from the roof. No major interruptions to our life. The kids got two days out of school. Ice on the roads is nothing to ignore especially when most of us have no idea how to navigate. Glad our officials put the safety of our children first and kept those school buses off the roads.
Luckily, no loss of power! With the exception of the fireplace, our entire household is electric. We could have spent a few chilly days if the wires had succumbed under the weight of the ice. My Sunlit Sunday offering pays homage to what we readily take for granted... electric power, utility pole, and electrical wires. Standing proudly in front of our home.. it weathered the storm... and came through without fail! Thank goodness! Joni Mitchell, you were so right.."You never know what you got till it's gone"... so glad we didn't have to find out!
Hello, Susan
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you kept your power and didn't have the same level of hardship as some in your state. It does make sense to stop and take a few moments to appreciate the things so easily taken for granted.
After the big ice storm here in December, parts of my community lost power for about 13 hours. Some in the large city an hour away went over a week without.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and a few words from the wonderful Joni Mitchell, here at Sunlit Sunday.
Karen
Thanks for hosting and dropping by. We were fortunate here with little interruption to our daily routine.
DeleteIt's a good think that you have a fireplace, as to lose power when everything in the house is electric can be a terrible hardship. We have a wood stove and a gas stove, so we can stay warm and fed for a while!
ReplyDeletePondside...homes built here in the past 30 or so years are usually all electric many with fireplaces. However, that doesn't help with cooking if we lose power! I had stocked up on sandwich fixings and snacks so we would have been ok for a short while. Thanks for the visit.
DeleteI enjoyed your thoughts on the recent bad weather in Georgia and the south. It was terrible for everyone I'm sure, as you aren't used to it. We've all had a terrible winter so far and it's not over but we can do our best to enjoy it.
ReplyDeletePam.. We can handle freezing temperatures for a few days, but ice is the biggest danger. We expect more cold temperatures here! Appreciate your visit.
DeleteSounds like you have had some really bad weather. Take care.
ReplyDeleteNot too bad here, but 200 miles north of us really suffered. Enjoy your lovely summer days! Thanks for stopping in.
DeleteFrom your street it looks like you're in the middle of a spring day. Looks are deceiving eh? Seriously, I realize the storm was before this picture and am just glad you all experienced no hardship.
ReplyDeleteRJ... The high yesterday was 80 degrees! That's the South...if you don't like the weather stick around until after lunch..can be completely different! The abundance of pine trees makes our road appear very green! It was a beautiful day. Thanks for the visit... Oh, I thought of you the other day on a quick trip to the store... I was called "Hon" at least 3 times in 15 minutes. Not "Dear".., just "Hon!"
DeleteI'm glad that you came through safe and warm! We get lots of ice here, and I'm so glad that I am retired and no longer have to deal with it. Early on in my teaching career, it seemed like someone died on Parker Road (the rod I had to drive over every day) with every snowstorm. Enjoy your lovely warm weather!
ReplyDeleteThis retirement is a pretty good gig! So glad we didn't have to venture out unless we wanted to. Appreciate your visit.
DeleteGlad you didn't get a lot of damage or disaster. I'm from Canada, and visiting in NC for 3 weeks now, it has been colder here than home in Canada, even got my share of snow 3 days and Icame here to get away from it, lol.
ReplyDeleteIt is all good.
Cindy
Oh no, sorry the weather hasn't treated you better! Hope the company has been good and the days heartwarming! Appreciate the visit!
DeleteThis has been a different winter hasn't it?
ReplyDeleteOne of the things we always lose when nature hits is electricity.
It sounds like you have the perfect attitude.
Enjoyed visiting,

Hi, Laura! Thanks for joining us here. We usually lose power in a high wind so we were very blessed last week! Appreciate your visit!
DeleteDear Susan, I always thought Georgia was a warm state of the US.....It has even been colder with you than in Holland. We got hardly and frost or snow this year.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week!

Madelief...we are suppose to be warmer! Last week our temperatures went from one extreme to the other and back again! Freezing rain and a bit of snow last Wednesday to a beautiful Sunday with the high temperature of 80 degrees F! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteDear Susan,
ReplyDeletethe weather seems to go haywire in so many places of the world - glad to hear that you had warmth in your rooms. Walking or driving on ice - a nightmare (I once sat in my car, and steered right - but it didn't bother - went straight ahead -- though stopped at the last moment). Good that your electricity came (I sometimes shudder thinking what will happen when it breaks down - here in the house everything depends on it) Wish you warmer days from now on!
Britta... A lovely Sunday, rainy Monday...we'll see what the remainder of the week has in store! Take care. Thanks for the visit!
DeleteSusan, you are so right about electricity. We take electricity for granted big time. We don't pay any attention to it when we have it and then complain when we don't. We never take the time to give it the appropriate gratitude it deserves. I am glad you are able to stay warm and comfortable in your home. Christa
ReplyDeleteChrista.. We were so thankful and surprised that our power stayed on! Hope all is good with you. Thanks for your kind words.
DeleteCan you believe we just got back from a long weekend in Charleston and Savannah? Luckily we flew in Thursday, so had no problem, except one of the Charleston bridges was closed. We had a great time. Such beautiful cities!
ReplyDeleteJen... Luckily you missed the hysteria! You are so right...both are such lovely cities. Savannah is a favorite and Charleston is just as charming. Glad you enjoyed some Southern hospitality!
DeleteGlad you didn't have the troubles that Atlanta did. It made the news up here in western Canada. We don't often get snow, either, and many people panic when it comes.
ReplyDeleteWe certainly can be thankful for things like electricity and modern conveniences.
Lorrie...we were very fortunate. Looking forward to Spring! Thanks for dropping by.
