Jane at Small but Charming is kindly hosting Flowers in the House. I enjoy seeing the diversity of the flowers, containers, and each participant's interpretation of such a lovely task. Currently, hydrangeas are the stars of my garden. I decided to let them stand on their own... no extra filler or fluff. Just the color and texture of these beauties.
My favorite bottles and lavender/blue hydrangeas.
More hydrangeas and my special Tetley Tea vintage glass. A treasure from my childhood. I loved spending time each summer with the aunt and uncle who owned a little country store. My aunt didn't have the heart to say no when I asked for the wonderful green and crystal glass. It was the retailer's promotion gift for stocking Tetley Tea.. to me it was at the very least a glass worthy of a seven year old princess... of course, that was ME! Sweet tea + pretty glass = delight
Such pretty colors and textures... the bush has blooms ranging from barely lavender to darker blue.... oh, it began life pink, but the acidity in the soil took care of that!
The carnival glass vase that belonged to my Grandma Lora is so pretty with lavender/blue hydrangeas and orange day lilies.
I just couldn't resist adding the day lilies... the colors were so
pretty together and such a compliment to the oranges in the vase. So much for just featuring hydrangeas!
I have decided I need more tables...not enough flat surfaces for flowers! Well, perhaps I just need to remove the clutter. Is that a possibility? Perhaps...unlikely. Thanks for the party, Jane.
Susan, Thanks for coming to the party!
ReplyDeleteEach and every container is so special and yes that glass is worthy of a princess!
Love all your hydrangeas, the green one might be my fave.

Jane... The party is always fun so thank you for hosting! The small bush is now covered with lovely dusty green hydrangea blossoms bearing only a hint of pink. Hope to dry a few for a fall wreath... fingers crossed!
DeleteDear Susan,
ReplyDeletethe hydrangeas are so lovely! And they keep well. The story of the vases is interesting - rembering your aunt and holidays by them. I have a lot of tiny vases now, because I don't want to make the balcony look bare - and so I don't have the problem with the tables :-) The milk glass vase I find especially beautiful - I have one (in a different form) too and think flowers look very stunning in it.
I also love the big 'lace cap'-hydrangeas, but those I hadn't in my garden.

Britta.. thanks for stopping in. The summer heat here in the South may wilt the hydrangea foliage, but the blossoms continue! Milk glass is such a pretty container for most any kind of flower... Umm thinking I might need to check the fence for those orange-yellow roses!
DeleteSo many beautiful flowers and vases! I especially love the hydrangeas in cobalt glass. Those orange day lilies make my heart flutter--something about that flower is so special to me...
ReplyDeleteJen... it's my understanding for real day lily experts that the orange ones are the least desirable! Can't imagine. The ones I have are doubles and the variation from orange to burgundy is just stunning. Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder! Thanks for your visit.
DeleteThe purple-y blue and the orange are stunning together. Nature is so amazing.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it? I just couldn't resist combining the two! Afterward I remembered 2 little brass tea kettles that would have been so pretty with the lavender blue hydrangeas and the orange lilies... saving those for another time. Thanks for coming by.
DeleteThose blue hydrangeas are beautiful.

Thanks, Gill... I have a friend that puts my little guys to shame. She has the more extraordinary bushes filled with blossoms that are at least 8+ inches in diameter with a gazillion little bracts making such a stunning blossom! Oh, did I mention that they range from pale blue to deep purple on the same bush? :-)
DeleteLove your blue /lilac hydrangeas - and the gorgeous blue bottles!
ReplyDeleteThank you! They are on my kitchen window sill...makes doing dishes a pleasure. Thanks for the visit.
DeleteYour blue and green hydrangeas are so pretty , they remind me of mums garden in summer time, we would always have hydrangeas at christmas.
ReplyDeleteYour comment made me smile! Just thinking of you "down under" and your hydrangea's at Christmas while we enjoy our poinsettias! Isn't it a wonderful world?
DeleteYour hrdrangeas are so pretty. I find it so hard to grow the pink ones personally.
ReplyDeleteYes... keeping them pink is a challenge. One that I have not mastered. I have read to add lime to the soil, but I haven't tried it. I planted the pink one this year so by next spring it will probably revert to blue... but then a blooming hydrangea is lovely...no matter the color. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteLove the blue and orange combo. Hydrangeas are wonderful as they age. I find they're more interesting when all the other colors come in.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree. I can't wait to see the changes on the blue bush. I noticed one today that is almost gray... definitely fun to observe. Thanks for dropping in.
DeleteHydrangeas are a fave of mine. Yours are very lovely!
ReplyDeleteStacey... Mine, too! I am so pleased to finally have two plants that survived. Am trying to dry the largest of the blooms... Keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for your visit! Susan
DeleteThanks for stopping by too Susan! Have a lovely weekend:-)
