The idea...

of waiting for something makes it more exciting.
Andy Warhol

This time of year I become obsessed with plants.. flowering, vegetables, shrubs... from tiny seeds to gallon plants... It makes no difference. Making plans... sometimes that live only in my head and some that actually manage to come to life.. outside.

The weather is such a tease. In the teens last week for several days and almost 70 degrees over the weekend. However, one can't be fooled... Winter remains.. even if the heart longs for Spring. Maybe Andy was correct... the waiting makes it sweeter... He did know a thing or two about flowers.

Have a good week. Joining Karen ... a bit late.. for Sunlit Sunday. Hope your week is filled with sunlight, pleasant people and good thoughts!

  1. I'm not sure I've ever seen that Warhol. It is fun and a much needed splash of color. I got the David Austen rose catalog and am dreaming of a rose garden. I

  2. I have to say that I agree with Andy! I believe that anticipation is often half the fun. When we take a trip I love to dream and plan ahead of time.
This year we have a new garden to play with and it's pretty much a blank canvas. I couldn't believe that there isn't a daffodil or tulip pushing out of the soil. I will remedy that by planting next fall, but for now I am planning summer plantings - such fun!

  3. Hi Susan,

Your packets of pretties will be blooming before you know it! Time passes so quickly, doesn't it? That being said, when one is anticipating something wonderful, (a new home, garden, car, job, CHILD, GRANDCHILD, etc...), and it finally does arrive/gets done/is born/ is planted, it truly does feel precious, and worth the wait. Case in point: our home, which I designed, and my husband built, took over 8 years to build, and my kitchen 4!

Wishing you a lovely, sunny week!

  4. Dear Susan, I feel with you: the planning is the most interesting pastime for gardeners in winter (or winter pretending to be spring). I will have a look at my notes from last year (balcony gardening differs so much from real gardening - I am sad to say...) Also I found in the chest with seeds a ridiculously huge collection of seeds from last year - still good -- but there my eyes had been bigger than my mouth - errgh: flower-pots - I was greedily overplanning: to plant those amounts I would need Kew Gardens :-)

  5. The anticipation is half the fun, like Forrest said " you never know what you're gonna get"'. I'm heading to Hilton Head very soon do hope the weather improves for GA & SC by then. Thanks for visiting Normandy Life today.

  10. I'm dreadfully late in visiting you, Susan. I don't know where the time went this week. Have a wonderful time planning your garden. There's plenty of snow that needs melting before I dig out my trowel!

    1. Karen... I won't get ahead of myself... Really, ahead of the weather. We always have a "cold snap" around Easter... So I am holding off until then. However, the daffodils, Japanese Magnolias, tulips and narcissus continue to delight! Thanks for your visit.

  11. Hello Susan, I LOVE planning (more accurately, dreaming) my garden. In my head, my garden is full of flowers that bloom beautifully together all spring/summer/fall long (like what you would see in garden magazines). Every year I would order way more seeds and plants than I could possibly handle. This year, I am going to try to order only about 1/5 of what's on my list. It's going to be tough.
